Position Description

Dominion National, a rapidly growing and leading provider of dental and vision benefits has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Manager, Provider Relations.

The Manager, Provider Relations is responsible for establishing, developing, and maintaining a servicing function for Dominion National Provider Networks, including provider relationship building, education, and training. This service function focuses on supporting and improving Dominion National’s contractual and business relationships with providers, ensuring provider satisfaction and retention, and promoting of corporate initiatives. Duties include managing a team of Provider Development Managers and providing strategic direction through the creating, implementing, and maintaining an effective service strategy, providing high quality service to our network providers. Other responsibilities include developing appropriate programs, policies and procedures; identifying opportunities for process improvement and efficiency, and reporting to leadership on activity, status, and variances.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Managing the Provider Development Managers and their provider relationships. Achieves and/or maintains a high level of provider satisfaction and retention. Establishes service level strategies that create or sustain a competitive advantage for Dominion National.
  • Ensuring training and development of staff, conducts performance reviews of each staff member and coaches staff as needed.
  • Managing provider expectations in relation to Dominion’s strategic position. Initiates and leads planning sessions with internal and external key stakeholders concerning service management issues.
  • Acting as the liaison between Dominion National and the provider with regard to relationship issues. Drives innovation and best practices from a relationship management standpoint. Assesses and interprets customer needs and requirements and identifies solutions to non-standard requests and problems.
  • Working directly with various departments and clients (internal and external) in the resolution of escalated Provider Service-Related issues.
  • Directly recruiting dentists within the network according to established goals and priorities to enhance the company's ability to promote a network to current and potential customers.
  • Participating in community events where providers are present (e.g., dental conferences).
  • Establishing relationships with key administrators of new and participating group practices.
  • Negotiating fee schedules with dental practices in accordance with the discounts as required and review for completeness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The minimum qualifications for the ideal candidate include: 

  • High School Diploma/GED required, bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years health care industry experience, including provider relations, provider customer service or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in management or leadership position in the health care industry.
  • Excellent people management skills. Demonstrated strong decision making, problem solving, analytical and presentation skills.
  • Multitasking, team-building skills and the ability to work with senior and executive management, building strong relationships at all levels of the organization and with external customers.
  • Ability to quickly gain knowledge of new business processes and issues.
  • Strong provider service experience with proven ability to build and maintain provider relationships.
  • Possess high capacity for problem-solving and critical thinking. Ability to analyze complex problems and issues, determine impact, and develop business solutions or recommendations for changes.
  • Highly motivated with proven ability to meet sales/recruiting goals.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Adept at using Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Access, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).Basic knowledge of Salesforce.com.
  • Valid Driver’s License with ability to travel 25-50%, with some overnight travel required as needed.
